Community Futures Foundation (CFF), based in Richmond, Virginia,
provides long term community based support services to individuals with
brain injury in the Metro Richmond and Hampton Roads Area.
For the past eight years, Community Futures Foundation has empowered
survivors of brain injury through innovative, “best practice” programs
and services. At CFF, individuals with brain injury are offered the
opportunity to regain self confidence, refine work skills, and regain
independence. The impact of CFF, though, is not limited to the provision
of direct services. Since its inception, Community Futures Foundation
has fostered the development of advocates, the education of our
community, and continued advancement in the long term care and support
of survivors of brain injury.
The Matter of Brain Injury
With every new day, the number of individuals living in the United States who
have sustained a brain injury grows. Not only does the incidence of
brain injury in the United States continue to rise, but medical
advancements also exponentially increase the likelihood of surviving the
severest of brain injuries. Despite this increase, community education
about the causes, symptoms, and long term effects of brain injury is
sparse.
Stories of True “Survival”
Through this website, CFF hopes to give voice to the survivors of brain
injury we serve. Each individual survivor story is different, but common
themes unite the experiences of those who have sustained a brain injury:
Because of one incident, one illness, one moment in time, life is
irrevocably changed. Rehabilitation is a way of life, not a short term
pursuit. And even in tragedy or trauma, there is hope.
